Reconciliation Action Plan

We were proud to have our inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) officially endorsed by Reconciliation Australia this year. This ‘Reflect’ RAP builds on our long and enduring history of engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It outlines our commitment, as well as tangible steps we will take, to build strong relationships, respect, opportunities and drive lasting change in our walk together towards reconciliation. Thank you to our RAP Committee for driving the creation and implementation of our plan, as well as Reconciliation Australia for collaborating with us throughout this process.

Compassion collaborative

We launched UnitingSA’s ‘Compassion Collaborative’ in January to bring together employees from all areas of the organisation to discuss how we can create a more compassionate culture, and ensure the people we work alongside feel valued and acknowledged. Led by our CEO Jenny Hall, there have been some great initiatives as a result of the group’s discussions, including a new weekly online mindfulness ‘Unwind’ session incorporating yoga and meditation for employees.

Recognising our Aged Care workforce

As a thank you to our Residential Aged Care teams for their tireless efforts throughout COVID-19, we arranged for food truck caterer Van Dough to visit each of our homes in April and May. It was wonderful to see teams taking a well-deserved break and enjoying afternoon tea in the sunshine.

Leadership webinars

Our CEO Jenny Hall began hosting quarterly leadership webinars this year to provide key updates and to share knowledge across teams. With such a large and diverse workforce across aged care, housing and community services, bringing leaders together regularly is an important way of creating cohesion, innovation and a shared direction.

New advocacy group

Drawing on the passion of our employees, and in alignment with our new Strategic Plan, we launched an Advocacy Working Group with representatives from across the organisation in February. The group will be an integral part of UnitingSA’s advocacy, working to obtain positive change and outcomes for the communities we support.

Employee Survey

We conducted an organisation-wide employee survey in September, which provided us with great feedback from over 370 respondents. There were many strengths to celebrate but also opportunities for improvement, as we continuously strive to build a better work environment for all.
